Rev up for the season with this great sprint triathlon!
This Westfields Triathlon marks the kickoff to the triathlon season in the DC Metro area. Taking place at Cub Run RECenter in Chantilly, VA this sprint triathlon is a great way to dust off the cobwebs and get ready for a new season of swimming, biking, and running. This event is also great for first timers who want to explore the sport of triathlon without all the pressure.
The swim takes place in the Cub Run RECenter pool. Athletes will start 1 at a time in a time trial snake swim format. This just means that you will swim up one side of a lane, then back on the otherside (just like swim practice). Then you go under the lane line and do the same thing in each of the next 4 lanes. Athletes will swim 250 yards or 10 lengths of the pool.
The bike course is mostly closed to vehicular traffic and mostly flat on very good road surfaces. A 2 loop course makes it spectator friendly and easy to navigate on this 12 mile total course.
The 5km or 3.1 mile run course takes place mostly on the cub run trail system which is on a paved surface.
There is great video on the event website of the pool and the bike route.
There is also a kids splash and dash.
