You don’t have to race to participate.  Come on out and relay, hang out, race – just have fun!  If you are new you can learn about the race environment/process – I will have shelter, food, drink, chairs, etc – a place for you to meet and hang out (like a tailgate).

You are also allowed to get in the water and practice swim.  Bring a wetsuit if you have one – or rent one from Bonzai.  You can swim in the shallow swimming area, or venture out to tackle the buoys and part of the actual swim course.  Practice time would be Friday after 3 or so, or Saturday morning after the swim leg of the race has finished (into the afternoon).  Team Z will be hanging out all day – so you will have a gang to hang out with and also rely on for support if needed.

This race is early! This race is early in the season so volume is not SUPER HIGH yet. We are not adjusted to the heat at this time of year and I just understand that it is an early race and you should NOT set your expectations for the fastest day of your life.   Your performance at this race should be aligned with “long hard workout” and not “kick ass first 1/2 Ironman”

The expectation is that you are doing this race as a high quality brick workout in a fun race environment.   If you do not race with us, there will be a group brick workout on your training schedule to do at home.

This is a big camping race weekend – at Lake Anna State Park (very convenient, clean warm private showers, etc). If you want to camp – GET ON IT as the park fills up fast and early (reserve now).

Under 70.3, and 70.3 Track 1 and 2 people should race the sprint or International (or relays) at Kinetic.  You could also relay the half if you are interested.  70.3 Track 1 and 2 ”“ you should not race the half at Kinetic ”“ we will not have the volume in your legs by then.   You could do the international, a relay, or the aqua bike on Saturday.  Or you could race the sprint on Sunday. You do not have to race, as always – it is your choice.

70.3 track 3 and 4, and 140.6 people should enter either the half or the half aquabike at Kinetic.  ONLY if you feel you have the base to run a 1/2 marathon after a 1.2 swim and 56 mile bike.  If not, choose the international  or the sprint – honestly it is up to you.  If you want the wake up call by doing the half – good on you. Just recognize this is a hard workout – it is early and the race will be harder than it would in 2 or 3 months.



Race Description:

The Kinetic Half is the first half-Iron distance event of the season in the mid-Atlantic region and is staged out of beautiful Lake Anna State Park. A one loop swim, two loop lollipop bike course and a 3 loop run make for an extremely exciting and spectator friendly day! The water temperature should be in the mid 60’s, guaranteeing a wetsuit legal swim. The bike course was revived last from a course we used a few years ago that has less traffic and nice rolling hills on great pavement. This is not an easy bike course, but it is quite possibly the best bike course in the world! There are 3 water bottle hand-offs on the bike course located at approximately miles 20, 35 and 45 with sport cap water & Gatorade being handed out. The run course is 3 loops through the park and campgrounds and is all on pavement with rolling terrain. There are 4 aid stations on each loop of the run course; each aid station will have water, Gatorade, ice, flat Coke, Chex mix, oranges, bananas, sweet candy and a porta jon. There are also misting tents available at 2 locations on the course so you can cool off as needed 6 times during the run.

This event features a Tri-Blend Crew Style T-shirts, Custom Race Socks, Finisher’s Medals, Professional DJ, Bounce House and a post race meal.

Stay at the park, there are multiple campsites and camp/cabin options available. Click HERE to grab a campsite while they are still available. With the perfect temperatures of early May this is a great time to camp out.

***Wetsuit Rental
The expected water temperature for this weekend is expected to be in the mid 60’s and we highly recommend wearing a wetsuit. If you do not have a wetsuit visit our friends at Bonzai Sports to rent one for the weekend.

  • This event allows a one time deferral of your registration to the following years event. Athletes can do this through their profile by paying a $20 deferral fee at least 30 days prior to the event.
  • Once we are within 30 days and until online registration closes you may defer your entry to the following year for $35.
