Team Z All Hands Ride and Run – The weekend of 8/27 and 8/28

*Anyone who would like to help us with “grill and or kitchen work” – we could use the help.  (We need the help).  Yes some dirty stuff, and then cooking and serving pampered triathletes.

**Anyone who would like to help us with “on course support” – we NEED the help.

Either role above is perfect for anyone that is not riding or running – it is a great chance to get to know people as you get involved.  New Zs…significant others?  Let me know!  (and vote on event brite to volunteer for each day)

Ok folks ”“ this is our big “end of the later than middle of the middle of the season” training weekend.   We throw down all of our bags of tricks and put on a celebration to recognize (in general) the peak of training for the summer as we prepare for taper (Patriots, Savageman, and Ironman Maryland).

We will ride on Saturday, we will run on Sunday.     We will have rolling start times so that we can get our longer riders/runners in as soon as possible, but also allow others to workout with us without having to get up at an obscene hour!   After each workout this weekend we will have a barbecue hosted by Cajun Catering aka Team Strike Out MS.     The ask for participation in our barbecue is $15.   All proceeds go to charity.   Team Z subsidizes the supplies and food in order that they make a reasonable amount for their time and effort.

You are encouraged to bring a significant other, family member, or friend if you’d like them to hang out with you/us during and/or after the workouts.     IF they would like to get involved, we would always accept a little extra help and include them in a sagging role/crew and or aid/cheer station.     We’ll make it fun, as fun as we can!   Email me (coached@triteamz.com) If you want to learn more or volunteer a friend or family member.

The Saturday Group Ride:   Rolling Start from Nokesville Community Park, Nokesville Va

Yep.   It’s out there just a little bit.   But we go here for a reason this time of year, every year.   People love these rides and they are super beginner friendly.   The area is awesome for road riding and is worth every minute of your drive even if you are riding a short distance.   Add the bbcue/social on top of that and it is a no brainer.   Newer riders ”“ we will have escorted 13 and 33 mile routes starting at 9 am.

Please email me  if you’d like to be organized into one of these “newer rider groups”.   We will set a pace that all riders can sustain ”“ and it is a no drop ride.   A real one.   So if you decide to join in on the escorted rides you can trust that you will be in the game no matter what your speed is.   The faster newer riders, expect that you may be riding easier than you are capable of in order that the group is kept together.   Just a thought, be prepared.

The following start times and logistics/cue sheet organization is about safety and social.   As always.   We do not have enough sag drivers for everyone to have their own private Sherpa. The route organization below helps us in staffing our sag crew.   The start times help us in terms of maximizing social and targeting a “food is ready” time line.

We only have cue sheets available for certain route distances from this start location.  We have 13, 33, 43, and 51 mile cue sheets.  We will ride combinations of these routes to obtain the needed distance.

  • When:  Saturday 7 am start ONLY for all people riding 80 miles or 120 miles
  • When:   Saturday 9 am start for all others
  • When:   Saturday BBCUE to start around 11/11:30

Cue sheets:  remember that distances of 13, 33, 43, and 51 miles are available

  • 120 riders:   You will ride the 33, the 51, and then the 33 in that order = 117
  • 80 riders:   You will ride the 33 and then the 51 in that order = 84
  • 60 riders:   You will ride the 33 twice
  • 50 riders:   You will ride the 51.
  • 40 riders:   You will ride the 43
  • 30 riders:   You will ride the 33
  • 20 riders:   You will ride the 13 twice, or 13 and then an out and back
  • 13 riders:   You will ride the 13.

Where:  Nokesville Community Park, Nokesville Va.  We have a shelter and bathrooms reserved.

Cue Sheets:   Are available in the “this weekend’s updated cue sheets folder”:  Members.triteamz.com/files/cue sheets/This weekend’s updated cue sheet (folder)

*Note ”“ sag drivers contact information is not yet on the current cue sheet in the “this weekend’s updated cue sheet folder”.     These are TBA.

  • Vote on Event Brite to rsvp for the grub (helps us plan).   Please do not wait until Friday night to do this ”“ we will print reports on Friday morning and adjust our shopping as necessary.

The Sunday Group Run from Wakefield Park, Annandale Va

The following start times and logistics/cue sheet organization is about safety and social.   As always.   The route organization below helps us in staffing our aid station and route guidance crews.   The start times help us in terms of maximizing social and targeting a “food is ready” time line.

The early start time is about air temperatures.   The air temps will be in the low 70’s at 6:30 AM AND IT IS GOING TO BE BEAUTIFUL.   Yes it will be hard to get out of bed and prepare yourself for this run.   But I promise you this, you will love this run and trail.  With the top cover and shade, along with the air temps you will dig it.   Then add in the surprisingly stunning run from a location that starts inside the beltway”¦you just won’t believe it.

Please adhere to the start times below.   My math is based on an 8-14 min per mile running pace.

When:   Sunday 7am start ONLY for people running 20 miles, or 14 milers who are 12-14 minute/mile pace (9:40 AM to 11:30 finish times for 20 milers at 8 to 14 minute per mile paces.   9:50 AM to 10:30 finish times for 14 milers at 12-14 minute per mile paces.

When:   Sunday 8 am start for people running 10 to 12 miles, or 14 milers that run 11 minute per mile pace or faster.   (10 am to 11:00 am finish times for all included at 8-14 minute/mile paces)

When:   Sunday 9 am start for people running 6-9 miles.   (9:45 am to 11:00 AM finish times for all included at 8-14 minute per mile paces).

When:   Sunday BBCUE to start around 10:15.

Cue sheets:   Cue sheets are not required.     We will be running a 3.5 mile out and back (7 miles round trip) on the CCT (cross county trail).   This is a pancake flat trail which is about 50% paved and 50% double track/compressed (easy to run on) gravel.   The trail is largely covered by a sweet canopy ”“ and you spend a significant amount of time winding around and crossing (on bridges) the Accotink Creek.   It’s a really nice run for where we start from ”“ you’ll be surprised.     We will have support at 1, if not 2 locations on the run course.   At a minimum ”“ there will be someone at the turn around at mile 3.5 (ish).   You can figure out the loops on your own (eg, 20 milers do 3 loops).

You can check out the Gmap pedometer if you’d like to get an idea of the road crossings/etc:   http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6890940

Where:   Wakefield Park.   8100 Braddock Road, Annandale Va
