Team Z – Rev 3 Triathlon Weekend 2014

Event Brite Link (Please do this now – it helps us so much). Ticket sales close on Thursday at noon.

Here we go. Time to rev, Rev, REV IT UP! Welcome to the Revolution! Ready or not, here comes Team Z! Note – if you have not been paying attention now may be the time. This is a point to point race, which means there are two transition areas. This is not a big deal, except that it requires a little extra planning in advance and one more step on race morning. Some details below to help you out.

3. Saturday Team Events/Details

Feel free to operate on your own schedule if you wish. These are my suggestions and what I might do where I racing…

  • Breakfast on your own
  • 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM – Meet us at Jamestown Beach Park for practice swim. It starts at 10:30 – but get there at 10 for parking reasons, trust me. I will leave at 11:00 after everyone has jumped in to go back and set up our spread at the expo. BRING YOUR BIKES
  • 11:00 AM – Rack your bikes at T1 while you are there. You will only rack your bike – not nutrition, shoes, gear, etc.
  • 11:15-2:30. Coaches will be at Finish Line/T2 to answer questions, greet people doing packet pickup. We wil Chillax a bit and take in the energy.
  • Lunch is on your own.
  • 4:00 – 5:30 Team Dinner at Maurizio’s Ristorante Italiano (highly, highly recommended and reviewed).
  • Bed Early!

4. Saturday Team Dinner/Details

This restaurant is highly recommended, and the reviews online are plentiful and outstanding.     The prices are more than fair ($12-13 pasta dishes). For them to take us as a group – I had to promise we would come in early. The owner wants to help us, but his “regulars” are always the priority. Basically – he said they are always busy and packed – so to help us we need to eat early which I would prefer anyway. It gets us out of there and in bed early – without dealing with the rush and stress of normal rush hour dinner.

We will roll in and sit/order as we arrive. There is nothing formal. You will order from the menu and pay your own tab.     However – please purchase a free ticket on event brite so I can share the expected attendance with the restaurant.

5. Sunday Details

Event Brite Tickets for Sunday Breakfast and Lunch

Special Notes to make sure you are clear:

1.There will be shuttles for athletes and spectators both TO and FROM T2 to T1 before the swim start and after the swim finish. So your friends/family will have a ride back from the swim start, promised. Shuttles will run until the last spectator has left the swim finish.

2. It is 9.3 miles from T2/Finish to the swim start. So you should leave yourself 15-20 minutes of drive time. Plus 5 minutes from Bus to T1/your bike. Plus at least 10 minutes of set up time. Plus READ THIS 10 minutes to walk from T1 to swim start. What if there is a line for the shuttle? PLAN EXTRA TIME JUST IN CASE. BE THE FIRST ONE ON THE SHUTTLE. Avoid the stress and long lines later in the morning.

3.Transition 1 (swim to bike) Closes at 6:20 AM, period (for the Olympic). You should be on a bus 40 minutes at the latest before your wave starts. 1 hour to be safe. You should be on a bus (not in line) to the finish line/T2 by 5:40 AM.

4. Half Guys – you have a transition closing at 6:55 – so you should be on a bus at 6:15 latest.

Suggested Sunday Schedule – will vary based on your wave/race start.

  • 4:30 AM until? Breakfast is served at our tents at the finish line. There will not be food or drink at the swim start. Please feel free to take food with you from our tents at the finish line to T1 so that you have something to nibble on while you wait for the race to start. We will have coffee, water, soda, diet soda, fruit, bagels/english muffins, pancakes, turkey bacon, hash browns, Nutella, PB&J, Cream Cheese – all the normal stuff.
  • 4:30 AM-6:30 AM Bike to Run (T2) is open Rev 3 Expo and Finish Line William and Mary Campus.

On your own determined schedule/Timeline: My suggestions…

  • You will drive to T2/Finish Line. Park your car and leave it there until after the race.
  • Place your gear and nutrition needed for the run in T2. (Shoes, Hat, Sunglasses, Sunscreen, nutrition, socks, race number/belt, etc)
  • You will grab some grub and drink from the Team Z tents (as will your family).
  • You will leave any post race bags/gear/clothes you need at the Team Z tents on our tarps.
  • You will take with on the shuttle you your wetsuit, cap, goggles, HRM, and any other swim equipment you need on the shuttle.
  • You will also take with you any bike shoes, socks, helmet, sunglasses, gloves, nutrition – ANY other gear that you will need when you finish the swim and are ready to start the bike.
  • To carry this gear – you will use two bags provided by the race at Packet Pickup. The “Dry clothes bag” and the “Swim to Bike Bag”
  • You will either catch a ride with the race shuttles, or with family/friends who want to drive to the swim start (there is parking at the swim start).
  • 5:00 AM – Swim to bike Transition (T1) opens. 6:20 AM T1 closes (no exceptions) Jamestown Beach Park (6:55 for Half Rev).
  • When the shuttle/you arrive at T1 – you will place your gear and nutrition on your bike.
  • You will pull out all of your swim gear.
  • You will take off any clothes/shoes that you are wearing and place it in your “dry clothes bag” (will be provided by the race).
  • You will leave your “swim to bike” bag at T1 for after the swim. When you finish the swim – you will put your wetsuit and goggles in the bag (and anything else) and leave it at your bike. LABEL IT (they will give you a sticker with your race number – but if nervous label it heavily on your own).
  • You will come to the Team Z Tent with swim gear and Dry clothes bag in hand. You will dress for the swim at our tents, and then you will put your street clothes/anything else in your dry clothes bag. You will leave the dry clothes bag at the designated area with race volunteers who will also bring this back to your T2 spot for you..
  • We’ll have our kiss and cry area at the Team Z tent – and you can start your march down to the swim start with your buddies.
  • After every swimmer has finished and started the bike ride, the Rev 3 staff will transport your dry clothes bag and swim finish gear back to your transition space in T2. It will be there waiting for you after the race.
  • There will be no need to go back to T1 for any reason.
  • Lunch will be a rolling start at our tents from 10ish until the last athlete is home. So make sure they know they are welcome to come and relax in our little tent village at the finish line, pick up a cowbell, and kick some cheering rear-end. We will serve burgers, chicken, dogs, hand cut fries, brats, the fixins, some chips and the like. Soda and Beer of course.

PLEASE STAY AND CHEER FOR THE LAST FINISHERS. TEAM Z OR OTHERWISE. THAT IS HOW WE ROLL!

Event Brite Link – please purchase your tickets by Thursday at noon.
