What is this big training weekend all about?   It is simply a tradition that has built over the last decade for which the purpose is to make a very big deal about the coming/nearing end of the hard summer training season.   This marks the end of a very level of training effort for all of us, at every level (No, this event is not for Ironman people ”“ it is for our entire team).   We are all coming to the end of our training plans and looking forward to taper and our big A race at the end of the season.   Patriots, Nations, Savageman, Choo Choo, or Crabby Crabby”¦

We plan this weekend in order to CELEBRATE.   And that celebration can include your family.

***NEW FOR THIS YEAR *** In the past mostly coaches doing the cooking with support of volunteers.   I’m trying to change that for this year, and moving forward.   I want to be out on the course, not burning hot dogs.   I want to be meeting your family and your dog, and giving you a pat on the rear end when its needed and shake your hand at the finish line.

SO ”“ we are considering “catering” for this round.   We will still likely have the traditional Team Z barbecue on the Sunday Run, it’s a shorter and easier day for all of us (team z volunteers AND athletes).   But for Saturday we are looking at having “Cajun Catering” run the show.   We will still have some burgers, dogs, sides as options ”“ BUT we are considering:

AND VOTE ON THE EVENT BRITE (FREE VOTES) TO HELP US DETERMINE INTEREST

  • a nice spread with 3 or more jumbo boils including shrimp, sausage, potatoes, corn, garlic and pineapple.   Mmmmm.   I want this in Gu packets flavors.
  • We’d have 2 to 3 big trays of jambalaya (vegetarian) in case folks don’t want to mess with the boil.
  • We would have at least 45 lbs. of shrimp, extra potatoes, extra corn and extra sausage so folks could pick what they want and there would be plenty.
  • If desired, we could fry up some of the spicy boiled potatoes too.
  • We would grill up hot dogs, burgers and chicken on a smaller scale for those who prefer not to fill up on the main courses.   But vote to let us know your preference for a guideline
  • We can cook special diet food if you bring it ”“ just ask.

Remember ”“ please invite family and/or significant others to meet you near your anticipated finish time to join us for the socials.   Children eat for free.

  1. For the Saturday Ride/Social at Nokesville Park: We are going to ask $15 per person ”“ that includes your soda, beer, the rental of the pavilion, the ABC permit, the labor to cook and man and clean up for 10 hours, to get this out in the middle of nowhere- etc etc.   (winking).

Please understand that for years we’ve been doing this on mostly our backs and our volunteers ”“ no labor costs.   That would change with this. Yes, volunteers are still welcome to help out on event day.   But please realize how much time goes into the “before the burger hits your plate” moment.   The big stuff ”“ shopping, packing in coolers, lifting said coolers, hauling, unpacking, set up,  cooking, cleaning, packing, hauling, unpacking ”¦.. management would be now on a professional (Team Zr though).  At $15/person ”“ anything over cost will be donated to the MS Society.   There will also be a bucket to donate a few extra $$ if you wish.

  1. For the Sunday Run/Social at Lake Accotink:   We will ask $10 per person ”“ again it includes sodas, beer (if possible sneaky), burgers, chicken, brats, dogs ”“ etc.  You know the drill!
