The Week of June 15, 2015

Note to self: When traveling, double check that you carry both parts of your power cord for your laptop and that the next laptop you get has a battery life that will last longer than two hours. Sorry for such a late message.

What a great weekend for Team Z. Congrats to all those who participated in Eagleman, Challenge Williamsburg and the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim! The combination of heat and unrelenting humidity at Eagleman made race conditions epic brutal. We’re talking hell on earth. I’m certain the weather was no better in Williamsburg or Sandy Point.

I must say that I’m particularly impressed with those Zers who DNF’d (did not finish) and decided to call it a day before completing the event. For athletes who are trained to finish and might see DNF’s as a form of failure, that is a hard pill to swallow. In reality, it’s quite the opposite. It takes”big picture”,” listening to your mind and body” type thinking to know when enough is enough. It means knowing that you are smart enough to understand when continuing could jeopardize your health and your ability to race in the future. I couldn’t be more proud of you! Please reflect on your race, learn from it and move on!

And finally, thank you to all those who lent a helping hand this weekend at all of team races and events. Every time we try to acknowledge specific people by name, we invariably forget to acknowledge a person. Let’s just say all of you who helped out rock! And to the two gentleman who stayed to help dismantle the Team Z city at Eagleman, I owe each of you 16,000 beers. I would have been there till 8:30 PM instead of 6:30 PM. Thanks.
