The weekend of 2/20 and 2/21 in Team Z

*I’m sorry this is out today, I wish I had it all together on Monday. But ”“ its out today ”“ which means I really need to ask for you to respond on the event brite poll by Friday at 3pm ”“ at the latest.   This is b/c a few of us are cooking food for the Sunday run, and we need time to shop and do the actual work.   You can “pay” at the door ”“ but the prices will go up by $5.     This is only b/c we have to plan for how many people we need to cook for!

You have until Friday at 3 pm to vote ”“ please do so asap.   Today even?   Please? I’m begging!

More details below for the entire weekend ”“ All votes for all Tem Z weekend activities will be on the EVENT BRITE link, not on a normal Team Z poll.   Yes, most options are “Free” and some options are in order to donate to MS.   Again, more details below. Both Saturday and Sunday activities will be “voted on” using event brite, not our team website.

  1. Sunday Morning Team Z  Red Nose Run ”“ 8:00 am planned start for long runners.   9:00 AM planned start for anyone 10 miles or less.

For those new to our team, a red nose run is a “team z produced” event designed to allow our athletes have a race “simulated” environment at key run workout dates.   During the winter, races are scarce due to the risk of weather.   So we put on our own “race”.   Everyone can win.   You simply come and run the distance that is prescribed on your training plan.   At “registration” (on site), you will tell us how far you plan to run and what you predict your total finish time to be.   The winner of the race is the person who comes closest to their predicted time (divided by the total miles run). You are not allowed to wear your HRM or watch.

LOOK AT THE GOOGLE MAP.   You want to enter to our shelter via Heming ave.   Zoom out ”“ look for Braddock road.   You would turn at the light across from Wakefield park onto Queensbury.   Queensbury will dead end.   Turn right onto Hemming, and the entrance to our shelter is on your right. If you go into the park proper it makes it look like you can drive to our shelter but you can’t.   It’s a gravel path, not a road.   The GPS likes to take you all the way into Springfield and come in from Backlick Road.   Look at this map link below ”“ zoom in and out ”“ then look at my diagram pasted at the bottom of this email.

If for any reason you end up in the park proper and can actually see the lake.   Look up the hill at the shelter you can see. That is not us.   Walk up the gravel road beside that shelter until you find us.

  • When: Park opens at 7.
  • Volunteers arrive around 7.
  • Registration at 7:30ish
  • 8 am start for longer runners.
  • 9 am start for runners 10 miles and under
  • Where ”“ Shelter at Lake Accotink ”“ you enter from HEMING ROAD not from the main park entrance. If you go to the main park entrance you will not find us as easily.
  • Use this for a GPS Target: 5650 Heming Ave, North Springfield, VA 22151
  • Google Map: http://goo.gl/maps/9NUfw

There is an entry fee to run with us.   It is $15.   But ”“ that money is donated to the MS Society. There are several people on our team with MS who helped to start this even and continue to help “produce it” each year.

Please vote for all weekend events by clicking here (except the Fairwinds ”“ no option to vote for that you can buy tickets from their site) or by pasting this link into your browser: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/225-and-226-team-z-weekend-boot-camp-ride-and-red-nose-run-tickets-21728155498

What do you get for your $15”¦.

  1. A tax write off.
  2. Technical running shirts and socks. I have left over socks and running shirts (all brand new) that are donated to us as left overs from local race directors each season.   You may have your pick of shirt(s) and or sock(s).   If they don’t go by the end of this weekend, I will bring them to Good Will.   Yes ”“ technical running shirts, and race socks.   Can’t guarantee sizes ”“ but you get the point that in return for your “donation” you will likely receive more in clothing than your donation.
  3. You will receive one free raffle ticket.
  4. You will receive food and drink.
    1. Coffee AM
    2. Chili and veggie Chili this weekend with boiled baby reds and all of the fixings.   Corn bread and garden salad.   These are the minimum.   Possibly more to come.
    3. Soda. Crackers. Cookies.   Aids stations stuffs.
  5. A marked course on neighborhood streets.
  6. We will have an aid station at approximately each 3 miles
  7. Timing, general support ”“ and a kick ass team environment.

All the while ”“ the $$ goes to charity.   Either Nelson or I (or anyone who cares to contribute) will pay for the food. I’ve already paid for the drinks.   The shelter has been donated by the park service.   We will have access to bathrooms (about 100 yards from our start location).   They are new bathrooms, but not right in our shelter.

Also there will be a raffle.   You have received one ticket for your entry.   You have the chance to purchase more.   1 for$5, 3 for $10, 10 for $20, and a “wing span” for $30.   Raffle tickets from the first RNR is rolled over into this RNR for the grand prize (the last drawing) which is for the Garmin 920xt ($500+ prize).

Other raffle prizes include: Gift cards to Starbucks, Amazon, Athleta, Massage Envy. Packs of Continental Inner tubes for your bike tires.   Nutrition products from scratch labs.   3 pairs of tickets to the Annual Crawfish boil ($50 each), and more. If anyone cares to donate to the prizes ”“ please just reach out (a chance to show off your skills or market your business, or just contribute to a good cause).
