The Week of 8/6 and 8/7 in Team Z

*Note 1:  The 2017 Ironman and 70.3 Poll is open now, as is the poll to gauge support for a Team Z Aid Station at the 2016 Ironman Maryland. If you are not certain what this addresses, please see this post from Monday.

*Note 2: Start locations for both Saturday and Sunday Cambridge workouts have moved to Great Marsh Park (transition area for IM MD).  The workouts are no longer at the South Dorchester High School.

This weekend we have both local workouts as well as a training opportunity in Cambridge, on the Ironman Maryland Course (everyone is encouraged to come, I will have routes as short as needed for both the ride and run.)

The workouts in Cambridge are one of the rare opportunities we have have to ride and run on truly flat courses – they do not exist in our area.  Plus these road trips are fun. We’ll hang out and tailgate on Saturday after the ride.  We’ll get up early on Sunday and hit a sweet run along the bay and then head home before beach traffic gets a chance to even build up.

The weather looks to offer extremely high temperatures rising fast on Saturday.  For this reason – we will start our  group ride in Cambridge at 6 am sharp. Arrive no later than 5:30 AM.  The Saturday Local Run from Haines Point and both Sunday workouts will start at 7 am.

  • Ironman Maryland people – you should be there in Cambridge for obvious reasons.  Yes, there is a ride in Haymarket on Sunday (local) – but there will be no support beyond 60-70 miles.
  • Miami Man People – especially the half iron people for Miami Man – this is a great opportunity to learn what it feels like to ride on flat land (it may be faster, but it is not easier than riding in rolling hills).
  • Patriots people as well – here is a chance to practice your race plans on flat roads that will mimic your race.

*When on Flat Roads – you do not move around “in or out” of the saddle as much as you do on a rolling course.  On a rolling course you will get out of the saddle and shift your weight many times simply due to the change in terrain.  The flat land and lack of shifting your body position on the bike present unique challenges that you should practice and prepare for.

Some people have asked which day we were running and riding this weekend.  If there is interest in seeing our group workout plans for weekends into the future – you know where the resources are that are available to you.  Just check’m out – even fill in your personal calendars now.  We have all workouts scheduled through October.
