The Weekend of February 6 in Team Z

Well, good ole’ Phil saw his shadow, which means six more weeks of winter or something like that ”“ so you might as well get used to it and just get outside for some training. Damn that Phil.

Guys ”“ PLEASE USE THE POLL when you are coming to a workout ”“ or if you aren’t. It is EXTREMELY helpful in our planning and we do watch it for lack of participation, what rides/runs get better attendance, etc. We really appreciate your help here 🙂

Saturday Group Run ”“ 9:00 AM ”“ Algonkian Park Trail Run, Sterling, VA

We will run east along the Potomac Heritage Trail (PHT), which is the course for the North Face Endurance Challenge in April.  This is the first time we’ve done a team run at this trail and it should be beautiful. All runs will be out and back, so folks can run whatever distance they like.  It should go without saying, but prepare to be self-sufficient and buddy up.  Cell coverage is spotty.

Saturday Cycling Technique Clinic ”“ 3:00 PM ”“ Arlington Oaks, Arlington, VA

This clinic is a lecture-based session with a live example and a power point presentation.  We will talk about the pedal stroke, and generally how to “use” your bike. We’ll address posture, a bit more on bike fit, climbing, and descending.  We’ll also address gear selection, dropped chains, and panic stops.  We will teach you about the common drills that you will experience during your bike workouts including spin ups, Single Leg Drill, Big Gear Low Cadence, etc.  This clinic is intended for the newer cyclists but all are welcome to attend if you wish.

================================================

Saturday Bike Maintenance Clinic ”“ 4:00 PM ”“ Arlington Oaks, Arlington VA

The Bike Maintenance Clinic is not intended to provide detailed instructions on how to build or tune a bike. It is intended for you to learn basic safety checks, how to clean and maintain your bike, how to remove and replace wheels, and how to properly change a flat tire.  We will talk about what you should carry with you on bike rides, and where to carry it. We will also address what you need to buy to maintain your bike (or what substitutes you have at home that will work just fine for now!).  We will teach you additional tricks such as how to ride your chain back on to the bike when you drop it. We will teach you some basic adjustments for gears (fix ghost shifting) and brakes.

BRING WITH YOU:   (Only if you have them, come anyway if you have nothing! Bring what you can if you have some things but not all!) Your saddlebag, tire levers, pump, and your front wheel. Please, if you can, CLEAN your front wheel using soap, water, and/or Windex/etc.  We will actually TEACH YOU and let you PRACTICE changing a flat with our help and feedback. If your tire is not cleaned, you will get dirt on yourself, your clothes, the carpet, and us.Where:   Arlington Oaks
