Weekend of June 7/8 – Team Z activities

EAGLEMAN DETAILS ARE IN ANOTHER E-MAIL

HHPP OFFLINE RIDE:
Happy Happy Pain Pain is another in of the “Soul Crushing Seven” series of rides that we have (I just made that up, but it seems appropriate). It is only for very strong, very experienced riders and only applicable if you are training for our hilliest, longest events. We have a small group of veterancyclists who are heading out there this weekend”¦ they reached out to make sure they weren’t interfering with our plans, and to invite anybody who might be interested (and strong enough). Very cool, thanks guys, we appreciate your part in promoting our sense of community and inclusion! For details contact Jason George at jpglaw@yahoo.com. It is unsupported of course”¦ just a group of Z’s getting together to ride.

Vote on our poll to help us plan the weekend. Link to polls: http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/TeamZ/polls

Saturday group brick ”“ 8:00 AM ”“ Riley’s Lock, Potomac, MD

Newbies”¦ a “brick” is just a fancy triathlon term for doing two activities in one workout. Most of the time, for us, this involves biking then running. For some reason triathletes need to have special names for things just to confuse people!

The trail is right next to the parking lot. And this is a BEAUTIFUL stretch of trail through the woods along the river. New folks who are staying local- Alexis and the other ride leaders are psyched to help you. But we can’t help you if you don’t come!

Bricks are not logistically challenging or confusing. You do a ride (based on what your training plan says), put your bike in or on your car, then go for a run! It’s that simple. And this is the perfect spot to do it.

Parking: please note that there are two parking lots a few hundred yards apart. Use the first lot on the left as you are driving towards the river, and please park along the edge of the tree line. This is public space, and folks use it on weekends to park their trailers after using the boat ramp. Please help us make it easy on them.

Sunday group brick ”“ 8:00 AM ”“ Tyler Elementary School, Gainesville, VA

This is a beginner friendly ride in which folks can go as short as they want- the 20 mile option has a decent hill before the turnaround point, but it’s an out-and-back. So you can turn around whenever you want! Join us!

The run part of this will not be the most scenic, but we’ll get it done. We’ll head right out of the Tyler parking lot and head into the local neighborhoods. Cue sheets will be provided.

Sunday group run ”“ 7/8:00 AM ”“ Endurance Athlete Center, Falls Church, VA

Note we will have two start times. For those of you going shorter you have the choice – historically the 8 is the more popular time (just for planning purposes, if you want to improve your chances of having someone your speed to run with)”¦ but I wanted to offer a 7 so folks going long would have a chance to do the run and the clinics if you wanted. And stay out of the heat.

If you will be running 1.5 hours or more ”“ come to the 7. If not, come to either one.

==============================================
Sunday Strength and Injury Prevention Clinic ”“ 9:00 AM ”“ Endurance Athlete Center, Falls Church, VA

If you have muscles, or a skeletal system, or hope to own some someday, this clinic is for you”¦

This clinic is another of the “do not miss” variety.   All are welcome, new Zs and vets alike.   Please come dressed in athletic clothing.   Don’tstress about this at all – this is not a workout!   There is a test, but it is not likely you’ll even break a sweat and we simply do not make you max out on push ups or anything silly like that.

What they WILL do is put you through a very cool series of functional assessment tests.   These are tests that Kerri (our team PT) has put together to help YOU identify the most common muscle imbalances or weaknesses found in Team Z Triathletes.   Each of these possible imbalances or weaknesses could lead to injury if not identified, and then CORRECTED!   You will each take the tests and receive a score – it is a very eye opening experience for everyone.   And again, the tests are NOT exercises.   After the test is complete – the gang will teach you the exercises that you can execute to correct these weaknesses and imbalances.   Very cool clinic – do NOT miss!

Sunday HR Training Clinic ”“ 10:30 AM – Endurance Athlete Center, Falls Church, VA

Come for part, come for all.   But PLEASE try to make the clinic! It isimportant and in the long run I really believe that what you learn about HRT will most affect your training with Team Z and what you get from this experience.

The clinic is well organized and the presentation is made by one of our teammates who is a PhD in Bio Chemistry.   He will help you understand WHY Heart Rate Training works, and most importantly Matt will teach you what is happening inside your bodywhen you follow the training plans that are designed for you.   If you can stay for the entire seminar I KNOW that you will learn more than you realize!   You do not need to bring anything unless you’d like to take notes.

New Z’s ”“ this is traditionally our most popular clinic and for good reason ”“ really prioritize this one!

Sunday Nutrition Clinic ”“ 6:00 PM ”“ Arlington Oaks, Arlington, VA

My “this week in” e-mail had listed this in one place at PRR and another at AO. PRR is the typo. It is at Arlington Oaks.

The Guest Speaker is Rebecca Mohning, who has TONS of experience in working with endurance athletes (and Zrs for that matter).   Rebecca Teaches for GW University and consults for corporations as well as Division 1 athletic programs.   The clinic lasts one hour – you do not need to bring anything with you unless you’d like to take notes.     This clinic always receives rave reviews from attendees!   Rebecca has probably helped at least 500 Team Zrs achieve personal, training, or race nutrition goals for the last decade. Come and meet her!
